This is an ore that expands when exposed to high heat. It has many industrial applications. Vermiculite mines are often contaminated with asbestos, and vermiculite used from those mines will contain asbestos. Since the mid 1990′s, mines have been tested for asbestos, but vermiculite from before that time was often contaminated.
