VATS

VATS, or video-assisted thoracic surgery, is a procedure in which a thorascope is introduced into the chest cavity through a small incision, which allows surgical procedures to be done without opening the entire chest. A thorascope is a small camera at the end of a flexible tube. There may be one incision for the thorascope, and other incisions in order to allow surgical instruments to be used to take biopsy samples, or even remove entire tumors.
