A metastasis is cancer that has travelled to a different part of the body through the blood stream or the lymph fluids. It can be called a local metastasis if the cancer has spread to local lymph nodes or other nearby areas, and a distant metastasis when it goes to a completely different part of the body, like the brain, or the liver.
