Cancer, or malignant tumor of the lung. Cancer can occur in either of the two lungs. Smokers can have cancer in the lungs. Mesothelioma starts out as a cancer in the lining around the lungs, but usually spreads around the lungs and into the lungs. It is not, however, primarily a lung cancer.
