Brachytherapy is radiation therapy applied from inside a tumor or directly adjacent a tumor. This is done by placing a source of radiation into a cancerous mass, either as an implant, through a catheter, or other means. It can also be called seed implantation because the radioactive implant may look like a seed or pellet.
