Angiogenesis

Angiogenesis means the growth of new blood vessels. This happens normally in healthy people when wounds heal. A cancer needs new blood vessels to grow. Cancer cells will send signals out to start growth of blood vessels in from the surrounding tissue. That is the way the cancer gets nutrients and oxygen. Without new blood vessels, cancer cannot grow. Therefore, anything that can stop angiogenesis in cancers can theoretically stop the cancer.
