Amphibole is one of the natural forms of asbestos. Because it is very strong, it was used a lot in industrial furnaces and elsewhere. However, this fibrous form of asbestos stays longer in the lungs when inhaled than chrysolite, the other form of asbestos. It causes more damage, and more diseases, including mesothelioma. It is rarely used now.
