Trimodality Therapy May Be the Best Option for Longer Survival
Trimodality therapy is a combination of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery and presents the most effective option for treatment and longer survival for mesothelioma patients. Since trimodality therapy is not only relying on one treatment option, it greatly improves chances for survival. It is much like a backup plan for patients because if surgery alone doesn’t increase survival by much, a combination of treatments should most certainly increase survival time. Depending on the particular stage that trimodality therapy is used, survival rates will vary. If trimodality therapy is used, the average survival rates are:
- Stage I – 22 months
- Stage II – 17 months
- Stage III – 11 months
